With my recent foray into portraiture photography, I have decided to add the Sony FE 85mm f/1.8 Lens (affiliate link) to my stable of lenses. And wow… what a great lens this is. I was using the Sony FE 90mm f/2.8 Macro G OSS Lens (affiliate link) as my go to for portraiture work, but on my original Sony A7 the focusing was a tad bit slow. Moving to the Sony 85mm has really been one of the wisest moves for my portrait work. I don’t have to beg the subjects to freeze in order for the autofocus to achieve it’s focus. The 85mm is a speed demon in comparison.
Tonight I took the 85mm out for the Mass District Art Walk, I am sold even more on this being a great performer in many situations. If people photography is your thing, I would definitely give the 85mm a go. 85mm in any brand for that matter, this focal length has a wonderful compression, and your subjects will thank you for it.
